Finding News

The obvious source for news these days are online: most major newspapers have websites. Both Google News and Yahoo! News compile newspaper articles and wire reports. Topix lets you search for news by location (although be sure to pay close attention to whether you are reading news or comments on the news).

Smaller, local newspapers often have less content available online, but we do subscribe to the Billings Gazette, the Casper Star-Tribune, the Cody Enterprise, the Powell Tribune, and the Northern Wyoming Daily News, all of which you are welcome to come peruse in the library.

Many more news sources are available through library databases. These are not as easy to use as Google and Yahoo!, but they often provide stories that are not freely available on the web.

  • eLibrary — You can limit your search to just newspapers and magazines by checking and unchecking the appropriate buttons. You can also browse topics and search specific publications.
  • SiRS Researcher — Search for news by issues and browse by topic.
  • Opposing Viewpoints Research Center — Another way to search and browse by topic or issue. You can also limit your results to newspapers and magazines.
